Yoshitoshi

I was idly looking up stuff about Murasaki Shikibu when I stumbled upon these great prints by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka, one of the last great 19th century Ukiyo-e masters. 

Such bold, clever compositions! Such stunning use of colours! Such a crisp graphic style! Rather than manga or anime, this reminds me of Hergé's great Tintin comic books...

  1. Difficile d'imaginer ce Japon du 19e siècle dans lequel il vivait. Pourtant, il faut faire l'effort de le faire pour mesurer l'étendue de son talent et de son imagination. Merci pour la découverte :)
